Matsushima chaya

Getting out from the right corner of the back wall of the main building of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, there are several tea shops in Kitajin where bamboo spreads over. These old shops have special permission for doing their business in there.
We went to one of them, Matsushima chaya.
They have hand baked “Umegae mochi (rice cake)” at the shop. The Showa Emperor had had it at their shop as well.
Meals are also good. Makunouchi bento (lunch box) is recommended because everything has been carefully cooked. You can enjoy it at the shop surrounded by the beautiful garden where will be full of cherry blossoms in the spring.
